FEMYSO welcomes the acquittal of 21 years old Irish student, Ibrahim Halawa

FEMYSO welcomes the acquittal of 21 years old Irish student, Ibrahim Halawa who was imprisoned for four years without trail in Egypt. After his trial was adjourned 25 times, Ibrahim was acquitted of all charges and returned home in Europe on Tuesday.

Our Member Organisation, FOSIS, was one of many that have joined the “Free Ibrahim” campaign and the important work the campaign did in contributing this outcome.

While we extend our warmest congratulations to the Halawa family on Ibrahim’s release, we recognise that many thousands of other political prisoners continue to be held across the world while being denied medical and legal provisions.

FEMYSO condemns the mass incarceration of political prisoners, and supports free and fair trials which adhere to International Law.
