FEMYSO participated at the first ever European Anti-Racism and Diversity Week which took place at the European Parliament in Brussels. With the presence of MEPs, representatives from the European Commission, and key NGOs we contributed to the discussions around the Anti-Racism and Diversity mandate priorities of the European Parliament Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup and EU institutions.

The week also featured the European Parliament hosting for the first time in its history, the European Day of Action against Islamophobia.

Youssef Himmat attended the #OICYouthDay on 03 September 2019. The day Amongst other activities celebrating youth and panels under the theme ‘Cooperation and Solidarity’, FEMYSO and OIC Youth Forum signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim to jointly combat Islamophobia, to promote education and to facilitate intercultural skills among Muslim youth in Europe.

FEMYSO was invited at the launch of a new program undertaken by the European External Action Service (EEAS): Global Exchange on Religion in Society. This initiative aims to push exchanges between several parties from civil society to share expertise, experience and good practices on inter-faith and social inclusion issues. This tool will connect and empower the involved parties, build connections between people from different part of the world (bringing faith-based and non faith-based people together). The key point of this initiative is to empower stories of coexistence and make sure that non-heard successful stories get raised.

FEMYSO head of Campaigns, Hande Taner, participating as one of 20 youth experts at #perspectives2030 which is a meaningful initiative on how to integrate youth perspectives into serious (not only) OSCE – The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe-related discussions with a clear aim - to live in a more secure future. 💪

FEMYSO Head of the Active Citizenship Sub-Department, Sara Tanan, participated at the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) 3-day Training Against Hate Crimes for Law Enforcement (TAHCLE) on 3-5 July 2019 📍 in Warsaw, Poland.
We at FEMYSO are committed to this cause and will use this training to educate and train our youth on how to recognize and respond to hate crimes they might face or assist to.

From Thursday to Saturday 20-22 June, FEMYSO attended the General Assembly of European Network Against Racism - ENAR (#ENARGA2019) 📍in Brussels. The agenda was tight. Distinguished guests, speakers and activists from Europe and abroad shared their experiences in the field of the multilayered anti-racist movement.
During the #ENARGA2019 the new board was elected. FEMYSO congratulates the new board and wishes it good luck for ENAR’s future projects.

FEMYSO participated at the European Commission workshop on Synergies and good practices on tackling anti-Muslim racism and discrimination, where our head of Campaigns, Hande Taner, addressed the attendance on behalf of the civil society organisations coalition against Islamophobia, she mapped out the major concerns with regards to islamophobia and listed out key recommendations to governments.

The event was hosted by the Spanish government in Madrid, with the participation of 17 EU member States representatives, and many Civil Society organisations.

Results of the working sessions including challenges and recommendations where presented at the closing session, and we look forward to more commitment and cooperation from the governments and EU institutions.

Our Head of the Active Citizenship Sub-Department Sara Tanan and Esmanur Aslan took part in the Partner Workshop: collaborating beyond the European Elections organized by the DG Communication-Youth Outreach Unit of the European Parliament. Together with the other partners of the European Parliament for the last European Parliamentary Elections 2019, we came up with a common vision and strategy for the next EPE 2024. We as FEMYSO are committed to continue our collaboration with the European Parliament to actively contribute to build a more inclusive and democratic European society.
