Voices from our network
A community that helps you grow.
As a volunteer, being part of FEMYSO is very empowering. You get an equal opportunity to learn, grow, contribute and socialize. It is the exact positive culture we all search for in any community setting, and the place to actually feel that you're part of the Ummah.

The best part of FEMYSO is the people — you end up working alongside volunteers from all over Europe, from every kind of background. You get to try many roles, and you get to fail at some of them safely. You learn how to work with others. For me, FEMYSO is where I figured out what I wanted to do later in life.

Volunteering at FEMYSO has not only strengthened my soft and technical skills; it has also given me a family: a network of like-minded people who share the same values, from all across Europe and even around the world.
FEMYSO has given me a safe space to turn to when I face challenges as a Muslim in Europe. More importantly, it has made me feel that I can actively contribute to building a better Europe for future generations of Muslims.
For me, volunteering at FEMYSO has given me the confidence to be unapologetically Muslim and European. It has equipped me with the knowledge, resources, training, and, most importantly, the community I need to grow and make a difference.
When you invest in FEMYSO, FEMYSO invests in YOU.

A year after I offered to help FEMYSO with some data work, I was standing in a room in Brussels teaching young Muslims from across Europe how bias creeps into AI systems. I hadn't planned any of that. I'm a software engineer from Glasgow, and I assumed I'd build the [A.i]slamophobia Tracker and that would be my contribution. Instead they kept asking me to try things I'd never done, until I was running training sessions and helping organise a leadership retreat in Finland for volunteers I now count as friends. Nobody here waits until you feel ready. They give you work that matters and they trust you with it, and that trust is an amanah. If you have something to offer, offer it. You'll be surprised what FEMYSO makes of it.
